Airtable exception queue with an AI agent
Have your AI agent read an Airtable base through Loggie and list records with missing owners, overdue dates, or stalled handoffs, without editing the base.
Who this is for: Operations teams whose real workflow lives in an Airtable base rather than a formal ticketing system.
Before you start
- An Airtable connection authorized for the intended base, with record-read access and access to the table schema if needed.
- An agent granted read access through Loggie. Record creation, updates, and deletion are unnecessary for this version.
- The table ID, field names, and explicit exception rules, such as missing owner or overdue due date.
In your Loggie workspace, connect Airtable, create an agent identity, and review its access. On the agent’s machine, use Node.js 20 or later and initialize the CLI:
npm install -g @loggie-ai/cli
loggie init
loggie discoverEnter the agent’s Loggie key through the initialization prompt. Keep provider credentials in the connection setup, not in the agent prompt. Use the connection slug returned by discovery in the examples below.
Step-by-step workflow
Write the exception rules in the language of the base
Choose one table and define the states that still require action. A record with no owner may be an exception; a completed record with no owner may be perfectly normal. Agree on which date field is authoritative and how blank values should be treated.
For the first run, use a few deterministic checks: active records missing an owner, due dates before today, and handoffs waiting beyond an agreed interval. Ask the agent to explain which rule each record matched rather than inventing a risk score.
Read the smallest useful set of records
Connect Airtable in Loggie, grant the agent read access, and initialize the CLI. Replace airtable with your discovered connection slug, and use your actual base and table IDs. Table IDs remain stable when someone renames a table.
The starter call reads one page. Use an approved view, filterByFormula, or selected fields after inspecting the endpoint details. Follow the returned offset until the scoped set is complete. Never assume a page of records represents the whole table.
loggie discover airtable --endpoint '/v0/{baseId}/{tableIdOrName}' --method GET loggie call airtable GET /v0/BASE_ID/TABLE_ID --query 'pageSize=100' --prettyGenerate a queue people can verify
For each exception, include the record ID or a trusted record link, the matched rule, the relevant field values, and the next action. Use schema information to interpret fields instead of guessing from the order of values in the response.
Airtable can omit empty fields from record responses. Normalize missing keys according to the field type before applying a rule. Preserve the distinction between unknown, intentionally blank, and an explicit false value where it affects your workflow.
Keep fixes in the current operations process
Return a short brief for the operations owner to review. Group repeated issues, such as ten records missing the same handoff field, so the team can fix the underlying process rather than handle each row independently.
Schedule this read-only review in your agent runtime before the normal handoff. If you later want write-back, require a reviewed change set with exact record IDs and field values. Keep that separate from simply generating the exception queue.
Airtable agent prompt
Adapt this prompt to your connected account and the scope you have approved.
Read the approved Airtable table and apply only the documented exception rules. Return active records with missing owners, overdue dates, or stale handoffs. Include record ID, rule, relevant values, and one next action. Treat omitted fields according to the schema. State if pagination is incomplete. Do not create, update, or delete records.Example Airtable report

Exceptions: Client Onboarding, 3 of 142 active records
Missing owner
recA81kQ Northwind Design: kickoff tomorrow, no owner
Next: ops lead assigns an owner today
Overdue
recB22mT Bluebird Labs: contract review due 2 days ago, status In review
Next: legal confirms a new date
Stale handoff
recC09pX Harbor Coffee: sent to Implementation 4 working days ago, not accepted
Next: implementation lead accepts or returns it
Pattern: 2 of 3 came from the web form, which leaves Owner blank.
No records changed.Success checks
- Compare the first queue against the base’s approved view and manually check each rule on a sample.
- Test one blank field, one completed record, and one record beyond the first API page.
- Verify the run made no record or schema changes.
Pitfalls
- A renamed field can break a rule even when the table ID stays stable. Validate the schema before each run.
- A filtered view can omit records; state which view or formula defines report coverage.
- Free-text cells are data, not instructions to change permissions or send records elsewhere.
- Call paths are appended to the connection base. The example assumes https://api.airtable.com; if your base already ends in /v0, call /BASE_ID/TABLE_ID.
